Why you should read War of the Pantheons by T.P. Theyson

Greek and Norse gods join forces in an apocalyptic fight to save the world from total annihilation. Witty, engrossing, and full of action and suspense, this irreverent novel of Gods vs God is a must-read for fans of the Iliad and pagan pantheons.

Why War of the Pantheons is one of a kind

I was hooked from the very first page of this novel and found it challenging to put it down. The premise of the story is that the Christian god is fed up with the bombardment of prayers from his followers, and wants to die. To die, however, he must destroy anyone and everyone who has ever heard of him. Which is everyone on earth. Trouble is, that means the Greek and Norse pantheons will also die.

Odin and Zeus band together to stop him, but in doing so, they are breaking the primordial rules, which forbid pantheons from interacting with one another. It’s a risk they take.

Shenanigans ensue.

Why War of the Pantheons is for you (or not)

This book is definitely not for everyone. Readers who are offended by irreverent depictions of Christianity should steer clear. But for everyone else who appreciates the creativity of an original, unapologetic story about Christianity vs Paganism, then this is definitely a book worth cracking open, especially if you enjoy reading intense battle scenes similar to those in the Iliad, because there is a LOT of battle. The Iliad is my favorite book of all time, so I was enthralled.

Why War of the Pantheons is a Masterpiece

Where many mythology inspired stories focus on just a handful of figures, Theyson’s inclusion is extensive. My knowledge about Norse gods is pretty limited, and Theyson’s inclusion of the dozens of gods in the pantheon, along with very brief inserts on who they are and their myths, was fascinating and exciting for me. Same goes for the Greek pantheon, which I’m much more familiar with.

I feel Theyson stayed true to the personalities of the gods according to mythological description too. The author somehow managed to keep all of the gods relevant to the plot, which is no small feat with such a widely cast net of characters.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever read, the closest one being the Iliad just because the fight scenes were very front and center and graphic. Theyson managed to shock me several times and even squeezed some tears out of me. Highly recommend!
