This is the most breathtaking Trojan war retelling that I’ve ever read, and we haven’t even gotten to the Trojan war yet.

I DEVOURED this.

This is everything every other retelling leaves out. The whys the whos the hows and the whens of every moving piece, person, place and thing that put every person in the Iliad and Odyssey with stunning depth and cohesion.

If you’ve ever wondered why Paris was brought back to Troy and accepted. How Cassandra’s family could eagerly dismiss everything she said, why Agamemnon killed his daughter, how he used Achilles to do it, why Achilles was not quite immortal, why Odysseus couldn’t worm himself out of war like he could other dilemmas in the Odyssey, why Helen went with Paris. Why are the gods so damned meddlesome? How did this start? Why PARIS of all mortals to judge the fairest goddess? Not to mention Briseis. Omg. Gaaaaahhhhh! Briseis!
